Innovative Solutions To Air Movement Challenges

Application: Portable Air Conditioning Units

Sometimes there's a simpler way to produce a better product. That proved to be the case for one manufacturer of portable air conditioning units. Company officials found themselves stuck with an extremely labor-intensive assembly process. The company was buying internal rotor motors, attaching them to a forward-curved blades and mounting them in a sheet metal housing.

Because the fan design lacked balance, it operated inefficiently. Another problem: the large motor the company used blocked a lot of the air intake. The Rosenberg solution: our backward curved motorized impellers. These efficient impellers move a lot of air at a high amount of static pressure while generating very little noise. We furnished a sample.

First, we helped the manufacturer redesign its 1-ton air conditioner, using our impeller to deliver efficient and quite solution. All the company's air conditioning units are equipped with two impellers - one on the evaporator side, a second for the condenser side. With its low noise and ability to take air and turn it 90 degrees, our impeller was the perfect performance choice.

The initial project was so successful Rosenberg is now working with the company to improve performance in its 1.5-, 2-, 3- and 5-ton air conditioners by using seven sizes of Rosenberg impellers. Rosenberg technical services paid off for this customer by improving both process and product.

Application: Rail Car HVAC Systems

Experience counts for an awful lot in our business. Consider the Pacific Northwest company that specializes in developing HVAC systems for rail cars. Company officials felt they weren't getting the technical support they needed and wanted faster delivery on the limited quantity of fans they order each year. Could Rosenberg supply the backward curved impellers the company had been getting from another vendor?

The company needed a 3/60/460V fan that could deliver about 3,750 cfm at free air. Power connections were another concern: Quirky rail car power systems require motor-protected fans that can handle power fluctuations and function with their VFD. We could appreciate the company's concerns since Rosenberg has been working with the railroad industry in Europe for years.

We provided a sample - our Model DKHR 500-4SW.155.6LA fan. Performance testing proved so successful the company ordered 51 more fans the next week. Our technical support and prompt delivery impressed the company so much, officials brought us in to work with them on two new HVAC applications. Each is worth many times more than the initial fan project.

There's a lesson in all of this: A commitment to better customer service can turn a small transaction into a large and lasting business partnership. At Rosenberg, we'll let our competition take small customers for granted. Because we don't!

Application: Air Filtration

An air filtration company manufactures exhaust/air purification hoods for a variety of industries. Some of their applications are home air purifiers, machining mist, smoke and commercial kitchen exhaust. They first asked us to quote a 225mm impeller and a 355mm impeller. Our price on both units was very competitive. We delivered a sample of the 225mm (2RREu35 225x63R B12-A3), and they are currently evaluating it. At about the same time, they were also developing a new industrial air cleaner, and they needed a blower that could move 1000 CFM @ 3" of water. We proposed our EKHR280-2SW.087. They purchased a unit to evaluate, and found the results met their expectations. Their initial order was for eleven units. Less than four months later, they purchased 48 more units along with inlet cones. Their estimated annual usage is about 250 units.

At the time of this second order, they also purchased one piece of our 355mm impeller (EKHR 355-4SH.127.5DF) to evaluate for an even larger air purification unit. The test results have just come back and they will be incorporating this unit into the final assembly. We have recently introduced our new 225mm impeller (2RREu35 225x63R B12-A3) with built-in inlet cone, and they are very receptive. The advantage of this new type of impeller is that the built-in inlet ring significantly saves customers installation time, material costs, reduces inventory, and insures no airflow loss between the air inlet and impeller, thus providing an optimal airflow. This also saves the adjustment time inherent to a traditional design. This customer uses 500+ pcs per year of this size.

We beat the competition at this account because of our fast response time, the quality and efficiency of our products, our engineering capabilities, the cost savings provided to the customer's solution, and our competitive price.

We look forward to a long term relationship with this customer in the future.
